‘The 100 Block,’ picks up the thread of our 2011 feature ‘10 City Blocks,’ with more hard-hitting, poignant and gritty stories of sex trade work in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver. New tales are told by the women we followed in our first film. We talk to new workers, and they share their often bleak stories with us. Where did they come from? What choices led them to a life on the streets? How do they manage to survive in an often dangerous and brutal environment? The viewer is also allowed to hear the other side of the story, as the men who pay for sex are interviewed. And finally, with valuable insight into the plight of drug addicted sex workers, we are fortunate to feature the opinions and input of Dr. Gabor Mate, noted author and expert on issues of addiction.
